Roundtable: The Future of Work – A Youth Perspective

  • Dentons 1 Fleet Place London, EC4M 7WS United Kingdom (map)

Youth unemployment is a key concern for students, families, politicians and businesses. Additionally, Brexit, the shift toward a ‘gig’ economy, climate change and emerging technology are all powerful forces changing the landscape of work for young people. What would be the one thing you would ask world leaders to do to improve the prospects of young people in this new world of work? This is your chance to come together and propose an answer.

The roundtable is a fantastic opportunity to:

  • Learn about the Future Leaders Network – who we are and what we do

  • Learn about the structure and expectations of a youth summit

  • Practice your policy development skills – every applicant must submit a 500 word (max) policy proposal on the theme ‘The Future of Work – a youth perspective’

  • Try your hand at negotiation – we’ll be asking the group to come to a consensus on one policy proposal that you would present to an international leader if you had the opportunity – just as you would have to do at a summit.

You’ll get the chance to meet a huge range of diverse, talented and ambitious young people, to discuss one of the most important topics facing our generation.

We have a limited number of spaces for the roundtable, and we are keen to ensure we have a diverse, representative and fascinating panel of views attending. As such, we’ll get in touch with you as soon as possible to confirm your place or otherwise.

To attend you must:

  • Be aged 18 – 30 on 17 January 2019;

  • Submit an application via the form below. This involves submitting a policy proposal of one thing that you would ask world leaders to change, do more or less of, under the theme ‘The Future of Work – a youth perspective’. This should include the problem you want to tackle (and the evidence it exists); and one suggested solution to that problem, including evidence (if any exists) to demonstrate the effectiveness and/or impact of the intervention.

  • We strongly encourage applications from a diverse range of perspectives. That means we’ll welcome ideas that span the whole range of issues that are shaping the way we work - from climate change, to social inequality, to technology and skills. Please don’t be afraid to be bold and innovative!

  • Be able to attend a central London location on 17 January, 18:00 – 21:00. Unfortunately we are not able to offer reimbursements for travel costs. We hope to run a range of events outside of London in the near future, when funds allow!

We are also pleased to announce that our applications for the Y7 Summit 2019 will open in early January 2019!

Interested in attending a summit, but want to know more on what they’re about? Then come along to our perfectly timed roundtable. Members of the Future Leaders Network will also be on hand to answer any questions you might have about the application process.
