Whilst world leaders took their seat #AtTheTable in Carbis Bay, young leaders from across the United Kingdom came together to champion the youth voice in creating a better world for future generations.
From 11 - 14 June, the Future Leaders Network hosted a series of events in Cornwall to ensure young people’s voices were not forgotten by world leaders at their G7 Summit in Carbis Bay, St Ives.
1.) International Media Centre
Eight members of the Y7 hosted a stand at the G7 International Media Centre in the National Maritime Museum in Falmouth, Cornwall, where we hosted a Y7 stall, held a press conference and spoke to local and national journalists about the Y7’s incredible work.

2.) Y7 Side Event, 12 June
The University of Exeter sponsored a Y7 Side Event which took place at their Penryn Campus on Saturday 12 June, 10:00 - 16:00. Young people from all across the South West came together for an action packed day of discussions, dialogue and development.
The Vice Chancellor of the University of Exeter, Professor Lisa Roberts, opened the event, talking about why youth empowerment is so important. Participants then heard from local leaders Toby Parkins (President of the Cornwall Chamber of Commerce), Margaret De Valois (actuary and thought leader) and Simon Cohen (speaker and presenter) about how businesses, organisations and communities should better engage young people. The morning concluded with reflections from Y7 delegates and Youth Forum members talk about their experiences as part of this year’s G7 Youth Summit.
In the afternoon, Elliot Kay (speaker and best-selling author) delivered a leadership training session on communicating with confidence, which saw the event concluding with young people sharing their ‘call to action’ for world leaders (and the obligatory family photo!)
